Built from 64 real games by Mikhail Botvinnik, this volume transforms historical chess material into a structured training system focused on the connection between opening structure, middlegame planning, and practical decision-making.
The book contains 64 training fragments, 192 key positions, and 768 Botvinnik moves. Fifty-one fragments are studied from Botvinnik's side as White and thirteen from his side as Black. Each game is organized around three linked stages — Preparation, Key Position, and Realization — with four Botvinnik decisions in each stage. The aim is to follow how a concrete opening structure develops into a plan, how that plan changes the placement of the pieces and pawn breaks, and how strategic ideas are finally converted into concrete action.
The historical games, comments, and analytical variations are preserved as part of the original chess record. Stockfish 18 is used as an independent control instrument, not as a substitute for human explanation. A historical move is not rejected simply because the engine suggests another first choice; any correction requires a stable comparison from the same position and a demonstrated difference of at least 0.40.
The material is grouped by recurring structures and repertoire problems rather than by isolated moves. The atlas includes Catalan structures, French Defence, King's Indian and Grünfeld-type fianchetto systems, Sicilian Defence structures, Spanish Game positions, Benoni and English structures, and other recurring strategic families. The main corpus is supplemented by eight additional hybrid training games that expand the chronology and strategic range of the book.
A central theme of the volume is Botvinnik's method of chess thinking: systematic preparation, independent analysis, structural understanding, long-term planning, and the disciplined conversion of strategic advantages into concrete decisions. The book also presents a 21-link training technology connecting theoretical understanding, targeted exercises, repetition, practical play, error analysis, and the ChessMasterPro training environment.
The historical layer is strengthened by signed commentary from major chess figures and analysts, including Alexander Alekhine, Mikhail Botvinnik, David Bronstein, Garry Kasparov, Mikhail Tal, and others whose authorship is identified in the sources.
Designed for ambitious club players, advanced students, coaches, and serious chess readers, this is not simply a collection of Botvinnik's games. It is a training corpus built to develop the ability to connect structure, plan, concrete calculation, and practical realization.
