The Aran Islands #998807

The Aran Islands is a four-part collection of journal entries regarding the geography and people of the Aran Islands. It was completed by Irish writer John Millington Synge in 1901 and first published in 1907. It is based on Synge's multiple travels through the Irish-speaking and predominately rural set of islands off the Western coast of Ireland.

Daniela’s excitement after visiting the Aran Islands was contagious. She sent me pictures and comments about the place, knowing that I, too, would be attracted by the charm of those wonderful islands.
When she told me about Synge’s book, I decided to reprint it in the original language.
I also wanted to preserve the drawings by Jack B. Yeats contained in the 1911 edition of the book.
Daniela wrote the introduction to this edition in beautiful, elegant Italian. Although I translated it into English, we thought it would be nice to keep the original Italian introduction as well, so that those who know that language could appreciate it.
I hope we have done a good job and that readers will enjoy this edition of the book.
