Here I am a teen in a far away country torn between communist and freedom and knowing that every step taken could be my last.
Fear comes every day and night always seeming to look into the darkness of this reality. Knowing every day that passes is a day closer to freedom, back to a country that I can walk without an enemy tracking me and trying to kill me. As thoughts of home never ceases to stop, the terrible fear of never seeing those that care haunts me. As I look up into the deep dark space seeing only the brightness of the moon and stars I see the faces of my family. Now wondering have I been forgotten.
It’s only because of the letters I receive that tells me I’m not. The comfort of a letter from home is the assurance that I am loved and missed I need to know that. It pushes me to the following day the letters I write are few and not of the dangers I face. From dusk to dawn the sounds of war are there, it seems the enemy never sleeps.
