This volume covers a critical period of time characterized by escalating political and military tensions in Qatar, the coast of Oman, and the Arabian coast, and the overlapping influence of three main powers: the Ottoman authority represented by the governor of Basra and the governor of Al-Ahsa, the Arab sheikhdoms in Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Al Buraimi, and the British presence, which played the role of observer, mediator, and controller of maritime security through maritime truce agreements and policies to prevent the introduction of weapons and ammunition to the truce coasts.
