The fascist regime was not erected and sustained by Mussolini alone: many figures stood beside him through the various phases of his political career, from the foundation of the Fasci to the conquest of power, through its consolidation and the formalization of the dictatorship following the Matteotti murder, in the process of regimenting Italians into "totalitarian" organizations, and down to the war and the republican defeat. This work gathers a series of biographical articles dedicated to some of the countless individuals who formed part of that broad and diverse galaxy that allowed the regime to establish itself and endure for roughly twenty years. The types of figures examined are varied precisely to convey how differentiated this network was, ranging from the squadrist Brandimarte to moderate figures like Undersecretary Suardo, from intellectuals like Pende to Undersecretary Buffarini Guidi - a prominent figure also during the RSI as Minister of the Interior. For each profiled subject, alongside the biography, a list of published works and honors received is provided. Finally, an appendix to the volume includes several of the documents cited throughout the biographical articles.
