Repair or Replace - Run the Numbers on Your Old Paid-Off Car, Aging AC and Big-Ticket Appliances, Compare Repair Quotes to a New Payment, and Decide Without Second-Guessing Yourself #1012424

The quote is on the counter and the number makes your stomach drop. Fix the old paid-off car, or take on a payment? Patch the 20-year-old air conditioner, or bite the bullet on a new system? Every forum thread says something different, and every answer sounds certain. Repair or Replace gives you a way to decide that does not depend on whose thread you read last. You will learn to put the repair quote and the replacement side by side over the same stretch of months, turn a monthly payment into a real total, test the popular rules of thumb to see where they hold and where they break, and weigh the things a spreadsheet cannot see, like reliability, cash on hand and a deadline. Every calculation is shown step by step so you can swap in your own numbers. It is about the decision itself. It does not diagnose what is wrong with your car or your cooling system, teach you to negotiate a car price or rescue an upside-down loan, price out contractor quotes line by line, or help you fight a bill after the fact; other books cover those.
