Money can be viewed as the symbolic equivalent of psychic energy. This perspective, inspired by the analytical psychology of Carl Gustav Jung, serves as the starting point for this work, which aims to foster a dialogue between two seemingly disparate fields: corporate finance and the dynamics of psychic life.
Consider a corporate investment. A company deploys capital that, for a time, ceases to be immediately available. In reality, that money continues to circulate in other forms: it funds investments, fuels production processes, drives innovation, and creates value. At the end of this process, it returns as increased capital, allowing for the remuneration of factors of production and the realization of the entrepreneur's expected return.
If we regard money as a symbol of psychic energy, the latter follows a similar dynamic. Invested energy is committed to a project, a desire, or a hope directed toward the future. It passes through a period of waiting during which it undergoes transformation, never truly remaining static. This period of waiting constitutes a creative space: it is the realm where energy organizes itself, engages with limitations, and prepares to yield something greater than what was temporarily relinquished. The return on the investment is not merely economic but also symbolic, as it reinforces confidence in the future and in the possibility that a desire might take concrete form.
The first chapter introduces the key concepts of Jungian psychology necessary to understand the proposed interpretive model, with a particular focus on archetypes. The second chapter analyzes corporate finance through the lens of these symbolic categories, demonstrating how certain economic and financial dynamics can also be interpreted as manifestations of collective psychic processes. The final chapter presents a corporate case study applying this archetypal perspective, aiming to show how the symbolic dimension can offer a complementary viewpoint to traditional economic and financial analysis.
