Second Shore #1018477

Andrea Valente arrives in Toscolano Maderno with a year-long post at the secondary school in Salò, a few boxes of books and a jammed car window. He is thirty-three, comes from Chieti and has learnt to teach without knowing where he will be the following year. On Lake Garda, Class 5B brings him questions that do not end when the bell rings.
A photograph and a petition from 1987 lead the students to the San Girolamo paper mill. Two workers who survived an accident do not have the same story to tell, nor do they want others deciding for them. Between lessons, parents’ meetings, work shifts and archives threatened by water, a school research project begins to change relationships in a town.
Andrea makes mistakes, must answer for his choices and begins learning his profession again in front of his students. Lea, a conservator and the mother of a young boy, has a life that cannot become an extension of his. In Chieti, Emilio keeps asking when he will settle down. Between the two shores, staying requires a different answer every day.
