Coriolanus #429367

Powerful, Political, and Dramatically Intense

Coriolanus by William Shakespeare is a gripping tragedy about pride, power, honour, and the uneasy relationship between the individual and society. The title character is complex and uncompromising, which gives the play a strong psychological and dramatic intensity.

Shakespeare explores ambition, public opinion, loyalty, and political conflict with remarkable force, while the language remains sharp and memorable throughout.

This Bauer Books edition is a great choice for readers who enjoy Shakespeare, classical tragedy, and politically charged drama. A challenging but highly rewarding read.

Shakespeare turns to 5th century BC Roman history for a deeply serious drama depicted in combat scenes between fierce enemies, conflicts between patricians and the plebeians, and contrasting perspectives within family. His treatment of war, statesmen, citizens and family life is surprisingly unusual in that the common denominator in all, the hero, is motivated by a powerful mother-son dynamic.
