A long time ago, two great leaders, Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor) and Yandi (the Yan Emperor), ruled different parts of ancient China. Both wanted their people to live well, but they disagreed on how society should be organized. Their conflict led to the famous Battle of Banquan. Huangdi’s forces fought cooperatively and were aided by trained animals such as bears, tigers, and eagles. Yandi’s army, fighting less effectively, was eventually defeated. Rather than continue the conflict, Yandi chose peace. Huangdi accepted, and the two leaders worked together afterward. Their cooperation united their people, who later became known as the “Descendants of Yan and Huang.” This book is for all Chinese beginners. I tried to include most of the vocabularies used in the story, along with their English meanings. Wherever possible, I tried to make use of simple grammar structures and avoid the more complicated grammar structures. If you are a beginner in the Chinese language, this is the book for you.
