Vows Before the Don - A Mafia Marriage of Convenience Romance #1012145

She saw the shooting. He married her to keep her alive.

At two in the morning, ER nurse Serena Vale stepped outside her Brooklyn hospital for ten minutes of quiet. Instead she watched a car roll up with its lights off, heard two shots, and knelt in the gutter holding a dying bookkeeper's hand. He whispered one name before he died. Now Serena is the only witness against the Conti family, and somebody has already kicked in her door.

Matteo Ricci has been head of his family for six weeks. He is grumpy, guarded, and far too used to being obeyed. He offers Serena one way to stay alive: marry him. A Ricci wife is untouchable. She says yes at a city clerk's office in her scrubs, wearing his late mother's ring.

Life in his Staten Island house is nothing she expected. A don who bakes bread at two in the morning. A brother who needs stitching up on the kitchen island. A huge old dog who refuses to sleep anywhere but outside her door. And a man who looks at her as if she is the only light left in the city.

But the dead man said Matteo's name for a reason. When Serena uncovers what his father buried, she has to decide whether to stay quiet like a good mafia wife, or tell the truth and risk everything they have built.
