Samaris stood shyly to one side as the school took up its position in long lines across the wide entrance-hall of the Chalet School. She was new that term and, so far as she could see, the only new girl. How simply ghastly!
“If only I could have travelled with the rest it would have been something!” she thought miserably. Unfortunately, it hadn’t been possible. She had been with her parents in Innsbruck where her father had a post as British representative of a big manufacturing firm. That had meant flying to Lausanne with him when he made one of his periodic trips to England. She had been met at the airport by the wife of the Swiss representative of the firm and put on the train for Interlaken.
