The Making of a Consul #1001776

401 BC. Cyrus the Younger is dead, and ten thousand Greek mercenaries are stranded in the heart of the Persian Empire.
Nikandros should be nothing more than another young spearman waiting to die. Instead, his body now carries the soul of a twenty-first-century American historian.
He remembers Xenophon’s Anabasis. He knows betrayal is coming. He knows the road home will be measured in blood, hunger, and abandoned graves.
But knowing history is not the same as surviving it.
With no system, no magic, and no divine blessing—despite what the soldiers are beginning to believe—Nikandros must earn his place one battle at a time. Armed with modern knowledge and an understanding of wars that have not yet been fought, he helps transform a trapped mob of mercenaries into an army capable of escaping the Persian killing ground.
Survival, however, is only the beginning.
The Greek world is divided among rival city-states. Sparta rules through fear, Persia waits beyond the sea, and thousands of veteran soldiers have no land, no citizenship, and no future.
Nikandros sees an opportunity where everyone else sees a problem.
From the ruins of a dying city, he begins building something the ancient world has never seen: an organized army, a government that rewards service, roads and medicine generations ahead of their time, and a new homeland strong enough to defend itself.
Every reform wins him followers. Every victory creates new enemies. And every step toward power brings him closer to becoming Consul for Life.
History remembers the Ten Thousand for marching home.
In this timeline, one of them will build a nation.
