As I write these pages, the four crew members of Orion Integrity — astronauts Gregory R. Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen — are orbiting the Moon. The Artemis II mission has brought them to the greatest distance from Earth ever reached by a human being. At this moment, they are observing the dark side of the Moon, the great terra incognita of our satellite, and delivering it to the Earth-Ark, to its horizon.
A good part of the women and men who inhabit Earth today are familiar with the idea that the space beyond the atmosphere is subject to historical tensions — the mile- stones of the great space missions season were, directly and explicitly, clashes between the superpowers. And if we follow the Husserl (1940/1981) of the Umsturz, we then discover that the very borders of the Earth are modified by the human capacity to trace broader horizons. It must be noted that this expansion is intertwined with and de- pendent upon a limit: the impossibility, for us as subjects, of detaching ourselves completely and absolutely from the terrestrial Boden.
