From September 8, 1941, to January 27, 1944, the city of Leningrad endured one of the most devastating sieges in human history. For 900 days, the Soviet city—now known as Saint Petersburg—was cut off from the rest of the Soviet Union. No supplies could enter. No relief came. The population faced starvation, bombardment, and unimaginable suffering. Yet despite these horrors, the people of Leningrad refused to surrender. This is the story of that remarkable and tragic period.

The Battle of Leningrad, as it became known, was not a traditional battle fought with armies clashing on open fields. Instead, it was a war of attrition. The German Nazi forces, under the command of Adolf Hitler, had decided that Leningrad should be starved into submission. They surrounded the city and cut it off from the outside world. They believed that without food, without hope, the city would eventually fall. What they didn't account for was the resilience of the human spirit and the determination of the Soviet people to resist.
