The next great war has now passed almost entirely out of memory, not having brought to light any very great com mander, nor achieved any definite result. But we have all heard speak of the fable of jenkins' ears, and we have heard of the battles of Dettingen and Fontenoy, though perhaps few of us could give a rational account either of the reason for fighting them or of the result that came of them.
