As regards its game birds, Ratnagiri is an indifferent sporting country; partridges, grouse, and bustard are wanting, while quail is scarce. Duck, snipe, and plover are plentiful. Among birds of prey, the vulture, the falcon, the eagle, and the osprey are found. Owls are common, as also swallows, king-fishers, and parakeets. The Indian oriole or mango bird is rare.
