Otherwise, it would not have been possible to make public the bulk of the information which appears in its pages, a remark which applies particularly to the Diary of the episodes that led up to the war.<br><br>The high personage, through whom this remarkable document came into our possession, declares that the intimacy which existed between the author and his Imperial master was so long-standing and close as to render it both logical and legitimate to believe all the details given in the Diary.<br><br>In order to preserve its intensely human note the Diary has been retained in the original first-person style in which it was written.
