When, in 1869, Mr. Freeman was delivering his lectures on the history of the Cathedral Church of Wells,1 he looked forward to the time in which the documents in the archives of the Bishop, and of the Dean and Chapter, now locked up in manuscript, should be printed to illustrate the history which he was teaching others to study.
