The Gold Coast, which is likely for some time to attract the public attention, extends from the river Volta to the river Assini. To the westward of the 'assini is the Ivory Coast. To the eastward of the Volta is the Slave Coast. The Gold Coast Settlements and Protected Territory with which this country is connected do not correspond exactly with the above mentioned geographical definition.
