Jesus; giolla-muire, the servant of Mary. These names were latinized by some writers in modern times, Marianus, Christianus, Patricianus, Bri gidianus, &c. &c. But when an adjective, sigui fying a colour, or quality of the mind or body, is postfixed to Giolla, then it has its ancient sigui fication, namely, a youth, a boy, or a man in his bloom, as Giolla-dubh, i. E. The black, or black haired youth; Giolla — ruadh, i. E. The red-haired youth Giolla-riabhach, the swarthy youth Giolla — buidhe, the yellow youth; Ciolle-odhar, Giolla — Maol, &c. &c.
