Guadalupe Island (fig 2) is about 37 km (23 miles) long north and south, 12 km (8 miles) wide, and 1295 m (4257 feet) high, with an area of about 250 km2 (98 square miles). It is rather uniformly high in the northern third, the highest point, Mt. Augusta, scarcely rising above the general level.
