Notes on the Birds of Northamptonshire and Neighbourhood #271048

This bird, which is known as Norfolk Plover, Stone-Plover, Great Plover, Thick-knee, and Short-billed Curlew, as well as by the name at the head of this article, is a rare straggler into our county. I find in my journals only two records of its occurrence within our limits as by law defined; the first of these was communicated to me by letter from the late H. O. Nethercote, Esq., of Moulton Grange, in the following words, dated July 11th, 1880: - "On Monday, May 10th, I was a-tennising at Arthingworth; Rokeby (the rector of that village) said 'I have a rare bird to show you, wounded this morning by a shepherd and brought to me.'
