It is impossible to underestimate the contribution of John William Burgon to Textual Criticism of the New Testament. It is true that his opponents Westcott and Hort still enjoy higher consideration among critics. Yet, Burgon was right on account of many conclusions that, willing or not to admit, modern critics had to embrace. No credit is given him.
This book is still a powerful defense of a precious portion of Scripture that has every right to be considered inspired and part of the Gospel of Mark.
