OF all the devices formed by Satan, and employed to fully the glory of divine Truth, that, which is now commonly call ed Axmmraursm, is the molt ancient, the molt dangerous, and the molt fuccefsful. Since the {all of man, it has exilled in the world, in every age and in every country. It may be called Religion gf our fallen Nature; and will never want friends and advocates on earth, {0 long as the Spirit of Error, and the corrupt heart are permitted to exert their wicked ia fluence. It is a {yfiem of principles, flated in direct oppofition to the Sovereignty of God, difplayed in the dillribution of His favours among men; and is utterly everfive of the whole: plan of Grace revealed in the Gofpcl. It proclaims open wat again& the eiiential prerogative of Deity — His abfolute right of determining the final Gate of rational beings, confidered as guilty and fallen; and makes the divine Purpofe entirely de pendent on the creature's Will. The great god is impioufly' dethroned, that the vile idol of free wru. May be exalted in His room. Th'e'proud ufurper, being feated on the throne dares to arraign, at his bar, every thing human and divine; and prefnmes to judge, approve, or condemn every article of the divine Tefiimony', and every piece of, divine Conduct.
