The guide provides the reader a thorough summary of the spiritual itineraries, basilicas and Jubilee churches, including a calendar of events and practical information on undertaking the pilgrimage to Rome, as well as an explanation of how to receive the grace of plenary indulgence. Added ‘in depth’ sections offer brief explorations of the important religious aspects of the Extraordinary Holy Year, such as the theme of Mercy, the meaning of the Bull of Misericordiae Vultus , with which Pope Francis proclaimed the Holy Year, an explanation of the historical and religious importance of the Jubilee Years, and brief biographies of the popes that have celebrated the Jubilees from 1300 until today.
