In presenting this little work to the public, circumstances have made it a duty, on my part, to present the causes that have induced me to engage in the enterprise, and to offer some apology, for introducing myself into the association of those who have entered the field as authors for the purpose of enlightening the public mind.<br><br>In traveling through the country, and mingling with society of different grades, and talking to them and with them, I have long since been impressed with the importance and necessity of a work being published, and freely distributed, setting forth briefly and clearly, the practical principles of the doctrines of Jesus Christ as revealed in the New Testament. But feeling the want of the necessary qualifications for such an important work, I still looked forward, hoping that the good Lord would move upon the mind of some one better suited for the occasion, to undertake it.<br><br>This production, which I now offer, when first written, was not intended to be thus spread before the public mind, but is merely accidental, and not the thing exactly, that I had before my mind, as spoken of above.
