The Author of the following Work, who lived to the age of sixty-three, devoted a considerable part of his time to the study and practice of agriculture. To a professional knowledge of the law, he added extensive literary acquirements; and, actuated by a strong zeal for the public good, undertook this investigation, which will appear to have been a work of much reflection and research.<br><br>The great object, which the author appears to have had in contemplation, was to exhibit such a view of the principles and effects of the Corn Laws, enacted at different periods in Great Britain, as might shew that the Corn Trade, both as a manufacture, and an article of commerce, is, of all others, the first in importance to the prosperity of the kingdom.
