II. Spoken Greek marks no distinction of length in vowels, like that which we hear in foot and fool, brig and beech: in like conditions of accentuation, all vowels and diphthongs are of the same length. If they are nu accented, they are short; if accented, there is a little difference in length, but not so much as in English or German.
