Stressed people become more competitive behind the wheel, accepting higher levels of risk and driving faster. In these types of situations there is a greater transgression of the rules and even less respect for safety distances. Drivers can reduce symptoms of driving stress by wearing loose-fitting clothes, ventilating the vehicle to avoid doubling the reaction time, putting on the radio to avoid problems and avoiding doing other tasks in addition to driving, they advise not to look constantly clock in a traffic jam, not setting an arrival time and avoiding some behaviors, such as honking or making hostile gestures to the occupants of other vehicles or pedestrians. However, stress related to road safety is not always detrimental. If it is moderate and controlled, it can help the driver to stay activated and alert and thus enhance their responsiveness. What should be of concern is traumatic stress, which causes concentration problems, irritability, insomnia, digestive problems, and high fatigue.
