In preparing those articles, I was able to utilise the experience of over fifty years' active occupation in the Manufacture of Cotton, in the course of which the positions I have filled have ranged from that of an Operative in various branches to the responsible one of Manager in mills, both at home and abroad. And it should be a further qualification for undertaking such a task, that for some time I held the important position of Technical Instructor of Managers and Overlookers. Throughout the work, I have endeavoured to treat the subject from a thoroughly practical point of View, and to deal clearly but tersely with the various processes in their order of precedence.
