The chapters which are addressed to the Student are the substance of six lectures given at Ogunquit, Maine, in connection with a course of instruction in out-of-door painting. They were accompanied by a criticism of the several hundred sketches made by the class each week. The purpose was to direct the mind along orderly and constructive lines, and to furnish a basis for individual expression.
