Seeing the many evils which oppress and enslave the people, both black and white, in all sections of our country, a land called free, prompts me to the writing of this volume, hoping thereby to do some thing towards the amelioration of the wrongs com mitted by many of our present social and political institutions. Slavery, in all forms, is a thing of man, not of God; in His wide domains there is room for all to be free and happy. The Birthright of alz is liberty.
