I have had great pleasure in complying with that request. I know that a very large proportion of medical students are but little impressed with the responsi bilities which, in after life, they may be called upon to assume with reference to patients afflicted with disorders of the mind; and I am sure that great numbers commence practice with absolutely no ac quaintance with this branch of medicine, and entirely devoid of those particular habits of thought which qualify for its successful practical study. Psychological Medicine, it is true, may be regarded as a Specialty in the practice of our profession. On this account, some may contend that it will be quite time enough to study the subject, when the necessity for more than a passing acquain tance with it Shall have become apparent.
