Lhe night from September 3 to 4, 1913, at around 5 a.m., when it was beginning to get light, the school teacher Ernst Wagner, without a criminal record, brutally murdered his wife in his home in Degerloch (Germany) Anna and her four children: Klara, Elsa, Robert and Richard. After washing himself, he took his three firearms, five hundred cartridges and some iron hooks, heading towards the village of Mühlhausen, setting fire in various places and firing, without distinction, with his two Mauser pistols, at all the people who crossed or they leaned out of the windows. Eight of the victims died on the spot, twelve were in serious condition, one of them dying within hours of the attack.
