The following popular biographies were prepared originally for various societies of women. It has been the experience of the author that it is difficult year after year to get fresh topics for addresses to sodalities. In offering these papers to the public he has in mind first of all his brother clergy, hoping that they will find herein some suggestions for a series of interesting talks. More than that, he desires that the life of each of these great wives and mothers be known to all. One of the greatest glories of the Church is her noble womanhood. And to-day especially, when the world in many different ways is seeking to turn our women from the pursuit of the Christian ideal in wifehood and motherhood, there is need surely of recalling the in spiriting stories of these women who sought first of all the kingdom of God.
